While our farm partners are known around here for their beautiful flowers, there’s a whole lot more happening behind the scenes, especially this time of year. The corn harvest has begun, and we’re getting a firsthand look at the impressive scale and efficiency of modern agriculture.
In the first video, you’ll see a 12-row corn head on a John Deere S670 combine powering through the fields. After last year’s drought, this season is shaping up to be one of the best ever for this farmer, with yields well over 200 bushels per acre. For context, one bushel of corn weighs 56 pounds! This farmer's corn is destined for the chicken industry as feed.
The second video highlights the grain cart in action, a critical part of the harvest process. Instead of stopping to unload, the combine continues harvesting while the grain cart pulls up alongside and collects the corn on the go. The cart, holding about half the load of a tractor-trailer, then transfers the grain into the tractor-trailer. It’s a smooth, continuous system that showcases the efficiency and coordination of modern agriculture operations.
Our farmers grow more than just flowers. They grow the food that feeds the community. During harvest season, their hard work truly shines. Thank you to our farmers!
