Creating Habitat: New Bluebird Boxes and a Future Pollinator Patch
New bluebird boxes were recently installed at one of our partner farms. Check out the photo below! Bluebird boxes provide secure nesting areas that help replace natural nesting spaces. They support declining populations of cavity nesting birds like the Eastern Bluebird by offering predator resistant shelters that protect eggs and chicks from predators, harsh weather, and competition from invasive species.
Behind the bird box, you’ll notice an area of freshly worked ground. This is where a new pollinator patch will be planted! In the next few weeks, this farmer plans to direct seed a mix of flowers that will support countless beneficial pollinators. Stay tuned to learn what varieties are in the seed mix!
We’re excited to see this space come to life as the season progresses!
